Custom packaging is very important for the sales, storage, and shipping of supplies. Packaging creates very important impact on customers buying decision and develops goodwill among the customers. Custom packaging plays an important role against the hazards of the distribution environment.
Packaging a product as per the requirement of the customer and the nature of the products is the main feature of custom packaging. For example, food products are packaged in such a way as to slow down spoilage and prevent physical damage and exposure to impurities.
Let’s look at the different distribution environment and figure out the hazards on the supply of products:-
- Airplane the Air transport: – Air ways are the fastest method for transporting goods from one place to other. Let’s examine the way the cargo is handled. A cargo is handled with variety of material handling equipments and by different people. Aircraft engine causes lots of vibration and shock to the packed product. This vibration can cause harm to electronics and delicate goods, so packaging should be done keeping all these things in mind. The next thing that comes to mind is cost. Air planes are the expensive way of transport. Weight and volume is the main factors in deciding the cost. That’s why packaging plays an important role in lowering the weight and volume of the cargo and can save thousands of dollars per year. The environment is another factor that also matters. Products are stored outside at the terminal or the custom, which may cause corrosion due to humidity in the environment.
- Cargo ships: – Now let’s look how custom packaging can be a benefit for transportation through ocean. Vibration from engine can damage the product. A container on the deck rolls often 6 to 7 times every minute. That’s why proper cushioning should be provided inside the container. Here also humidity is an important factor. Due to change in the climate the product may be corroded. Packaging should protect the product from these hazards. Custom packaging Boxes
- Train Transport: – Train transport has all the hazards caused during air transport but with greater intensity. Rail car coupling can cause severe damage to packed products. The intensity of damage also depends on boxcar in which your product is being carried out. If the box is placed on the bottom, then it has to sustain all the weight of goods above it. The product may roll in the boxcar due to the speed at which train is running.
- Road Transport: – Transporting goods by road has become the backbone of transportation. Lots of precautions are taken to prevent the product from damages, but a product can experience lots of damages which are out of control. Truck shipment exposes products to significant material handling risks. Manual or mechanical handling can occur at loading, unloading, and at transfer point. To lower these hazards, few precautions should be taken. Proper designing of the outer container, internal cushioning should be provided. Proper warning and indication should be provided on the container. These precautions can minimize the effects of manual and mechanical handling. Generally the drivers of these trucks have little control on the operation of these vehicles in order to minimize the effect on the packet. Goods generally have to experience shocks and vibration when the truck is running on the road. Climatic conditions are another danger to the products. If goods are traveling in humid climate then, corrosion may occur. Trucks suspension, tire conditions, driver experience, location of the cargo within the truck, road condition and traffic condition are some of the other factors that can affect the cargo.
